“If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” – African Proverb
And what better way to go far together as a family than on an unforgettable African safari adventure? Rockfig Lodge at Madikwe Game Reserve is the perfect place to create lasting memories with your loved ones.
Learning Adventures on Safari
Our amazing guides are passionate about sharing their love of wildlife with our younger guests. From learning to track animals by their footprints (spoor) to discovering fascinating facts about birds, bugs, and mammals, your children will be captivated on every morning and evening game drive.
The Exciting Safari Booklet
Rockfig Lodge has a special treat for younger adventurers – the Safari Booklet! Packed with fun activities like colouring pages, mazes, and checklists to track all the amazing animals they see, this booklet is a great way to keep kids engaged throughout their stay. For older kids, the Digital Safari Challenge is a fun way to learn how to use their cameras (or their parent’s phones!) to capture incredible safari moments. This interactive challenge encourages them to explore the lodge grounds, find hidden wonders, and learn about the plants and creatures that call Madikwe (and Rockfig) home.
Spacious Family Villas
Rockfig Lodge offers a variety of villas to suit your family’s needs. The Inkwe Villa is the ultimate family retreat.
This spacious 3-bedroom villa boasts a large garden, a sparkling pool, a cozy boma area, and a lookout deck – perfect for kids to run around and explore. Each bedroom has its own en-suite bathroom, with one even featuring a bathtub for those post-safari scrub downs.
And the best part? The villa boasts a private lookout deck with umbrellas and comfortable chairs overlooking a waterhole, giving you a front-row seat to all the amazing wildlife that comes to drink.
For smaller families, the Tlou Villa offers a comfortable and private space with two en-suite bedrooms, a plunge pool, boma area and relaxing indoor and outdoor seating areas. Please note that a private vehicle is required for families with children under 12 years old in this villa.
Spotting Animals from the Photographic Hide
Looking for a unique way to spend some downtime? The Photographic Hide is a fantastic spot to relax and watch the animals visit the waterhole. Since the lodge is fenced, kids can safely walk down the marked pathways to the hide. And even if they’re not at the hide, they won’t miss a thing – a camera at the hide feeds live footage back to the main lodge building, so the animal action is always accessible.
Pizza Parties and Campfire Chats
Think delicious aromas of freshly-baked pizza filling the air as kids get creative at the lodge’s pizza oven. With a little help from our friendly staff, they’ll be making their own pizzas, ready to devour their culinary masterpieces. It’s a fun-filled family activity that’s sure to bring smiles to everyone’s faces.
Evenings at Rockfig Lodge are all about connecting as a family. Gather around the crackling boma fire, sharing stories and laughter about the day’s adventures. Then, enjoy a delicious dinner – your own pizza creation or something yummy from the kid’s menu.
Safaris are more than just spotting amazing wildlife; they’re about creating lasting memories with your loved ones. The thrill of seeing a herd of elephants, or the excitement of whispering together while tracking lions are just some of the ways families can reconnect with nature and each other to bond and share stories that will be cherished for years to come.
Rockfig Lodge offers an unforgettable safari experience that caters to the whole family. Come create lasting memories together, surrounded by the beauty and wonder of the African wilderness!
