Rockfig

Our beautiful lodge has a magnificent setting, high up on the ridge above the Madikwe plains, offering spectacular views and stunning sunsets. Madikwe offers some of the most pristine and untouched wilderness areas in Africa.

Leave the stress and rush of your busy life behind and enjoy our luxurious accommodation, incredible safari adventures, spectacular views and stunning sunsets — not to mention our staff pampering and spoiling you!

Our lodge is small and intimate, allowing you privacy whether you choose to travel alone, as a couple or as a family group. It also allows our staff to give you their undivided attention as and when you need it. Our four self-contained villas are positioned far enough apart to ensure seclusion but remain within an easy walk to our restaurant, bar and pool deck.

Reviews & Testimonials

Our stay at Rockfig was truly a 10/10. We were lucky enough to have the entire lodge to ourselves, including all the game drives. Hanru was incredibly skilled at tracking wildlife and also a great person to spend the day with. We saw the Big Five for two days — such incredible luck! The staff thought of everything: the fireplace was ready for us when we returned for dinner, hot water bottles were provided in the mornings for the chilly game drives, and there were delicious snacks during the safaris. The food was fantastic as well — we’ve rarely eaten so well at a hotel. Thank you for everything!

Exceptional Safari breakaway.
The entire management and staff were present to welcome us. All meals were 5 star and extremely enjoyable. Compliments to the chef and her team. Manie, the general manager, and his team were very efficient and ensured that the facilities were in top shape. The rooms are very spacious and luxurious. The game rangers are extremely knowledgeable about the animals, birds and flora. We enjoyed excellent viewing. In all we enjoyed a great week at Rock Fig and hope to return.

Our experience at Rock Fig was absolutely spectacular. The entire team from the chefs to the housekeepers to the guides are incredible at what they do. They effortlessly accommodated our family of 6 with dietary and mobility restrictions that would have driven lesser teams crazy. The facilities are second to none but the people are what made this experience so special for our family. Our guide KG made every game drive an adventure and we were so impressed with his knowledgeand passion for the animals that we saw. Every detail was considered in every activity that we did. Everything about Rock fig was special, unique and exceptional and we are truly grateful to the team for providing such an unforgettable experience.

We spent three unforgettable nights at RockFig Lodge in Madikwe Private Game Reserve, and it was an absolutely exceptional experience. Every possible effort was made to ensure our stay was perfect—from private dinners in the beautifully designed houses to a delivered lunch at the hide, every detail was thoughtfully arranged.
The staff went above and beyond to fulfill every wish, providing outstanding service with warmth and dedication. The lodge itself was impeccably clean and beautifully maintained. A special highlight was the private bonfire prepared just for us at our villa, creating an unforgettable atmosphere. Drinks were delivered to our room on request, and no desire was left unmet.
Our safari guide, KG, was phenomenal. He put in extraordinary effort to show us as many animals as possible, tailoring each drive to our interests. His deep knowledge of wildlife and nature, combined with his respect for the animals, made every game drive a truly special experience.
Overall, our stay at RockFig Lodge was nothing short of magical. We highly recommend it to anyone looking for an exceptional safari experience.

Staying at RockFig Lodge in the Madikwe Game Reserve was truly an incredible and unforgettable safari experience. Nestled in the heart of one of South Africa’s premier game reserves, the Family House we stayed in was immaculate – clean, lush, and spacious, complete with its own private watering hole, pool, and braai area.
From the moment we arrived, the hospitality was top-notch. The food was great and thoughtfully prepared, and the service was exceptional. The staff were warm, welcoming, and genuinely committed to making our stay special.
A huge shoutout to our fantastic game ranger, KG, whose experience and enthusiasm made each game drive both fun and educational. He went above and beyond to make sure we spotted all the animals on our list – from the Big 5 to other rare and beautiful species we didn’t expect to see.
Special thanks also to Manny and the RockFig team for their outstanding service and attention to detail. They made us feel at home and ensured that every aspect of our stay was flawless and memorable.

A Hidden Gem in Madikwe – Perfect for Families
We had a wonderful stay at this cosy little lodge in Madikwe. With only four rooms, it feels intimate and peaceful — just what we were looking for. The staff were incredibly warm and accommodating, especially with the children. They really made an effort to get the kids involved in the experience, which made it extra special for our family.
The safari rides were excellent — well-organised, exciting, and with some fantastic animal sightings. The guides were knowledgeable and patient, and made sure both adults and children were engaged throughout.
One of the highlights was the animal hide — a brilliant spot where we saw loads of wildlife up close in a quiet, relaxed setting. It really added to the experience.
The food was consistently delicious, and the snacks in between meals were a real treat. You can tell a lot of care goes into every detail here.
If I had one small suggestion for improvement, it would be to stream the watering hole’s live feed to the rooms — it would be lovely to keep an eye on the activity even when relaxing indoors.
Highly recommended for families or anyone looking for a relaxed and personal safari experience.

We had a truly wonderful family stay with our 11-month-old baby. Our guide Anru was not only extremely professional and knowledgeable, but also a gifted storyteller who brought the bush to life. The staff were warm and efficient, and the lodge is both peaceful and perfectly suited for families. The reserve is teeming with wildlife encounters. We will definitely be back!

What an amazing experience couldn’t rate it better from the room, food and service to the amazing Safari experience we had with our guide “Pride”. An experience we will remember for a lifetime! Totally recommend! So many animals that we saw in their natural environment and even had a few visitors outside our room which was very cool!

We recently had the privilege of spending five unforgettable days at Rockfig Madikwe, and I can honestly say it was an exceptional experience from start to finish.
Everything about the lodge was outstanding. The food was absolutely incredible — every meal felt thoughtfully prepared and beautifully presented. Chef Lesego and her team outdid themselves.
A special mention must go to our guide, Pride, who made every game drive informative, and memorable. His knowledge of the bush and passion for wildlife truly elevated the entire safari experience. A heartfelt thank you as well for the surprise visit to the caves and for sharing the cultural significance of the area.
The General Manager, Manny, also deserves recognition for running such a warm, welcoming, and professional operation. You can really feel the care and attention that goes into every detail of the lodge.
Thank you to the entire Rockfig team for an amazing stay!

Heritage

Andrew Walker’s love of the bush and his insatiable desire to share it with friends and family led to him founding Rockfig Lodge over 20 years ago. After acquiring a lease in Madikwe game reserve in 2000, he built his own home away from home, Inkwe family house. This soon became home to regular cherished family holidays.

In 2013, Andrew set about creating a private commercial lodge. Andrew never did things in half measures and true to form he built the most beautiful guest Villas and central entertainment area. Rockfig officially opened in 2019.

Andrew sadly passed away in 2021, but the family continue to keep his pioneering passion alive through the lodge.
His desire to create an environment which offers guests a unique and immersive safari experience is realised through each and every visitor who walks through our doors. Our team take great pride in continuing to share his love of the untamed bush and abundant wildlife. To date Rockfig lodge has been one of the most popular lodges in the area amongst both local and overseas guests, receiving numerous outstanding reviews.

Rockfig lodge is named after a beautiful Rock fig tree that grows on the magical cliff overlooking Madikwe hills, our logo represents this special tree. Guests can experience this amazing cliff and majestic tree whilst enjoying our speciality High Lunch or Sundowners from our private cliff lookout point.
